Mixed-Medium Whimsical Wind Chimes | Holly Jones
SUMMER CAMP
*This is a 2-session workshop
Saturday July 25th | 6-9pm
Wednesday July 29th | 6-9pm
The whimsical Holly Jones join us in the studio for a another creative and hands-on exploration of clay, texture, and natural elements as you design and build your own handcrafted wind chime. Using driftwood collected from Lake Michigan as the anchor and hand-shaped clay charms as the focal point, this workshop blends earthy materials with artistic expression to create a one-of-a-kind piece for your garden or home.
Inspired by organic forms and natural textures, participants will create a cohesive wind chime featuring hand-built clay elements such as leaves, botanicals, shells, abstract medallions, and small clay bells. Copper wire will be used both structurally and decoratively, adding warmth and an artisan touch to the finished piece.
Session One : Design & Clay Creation
Introduction to composition and balance in wind chime design
Demonstration of hand-building techniques for durable clay charms
Creating texture using botanical impressions and carving tools
Forming small clay bells and sound elements
Preparing pieces for drying and firing
Participants will leave with a full set of handcrafted components ready for firing.
*This session will take place outdoors. We will have tables to work on, and a tent overhead.
Session Two : Assembly & Finishing
Introduction to copper wire wrapping and secure hanging methods
Designing strand layouts for visual movement and sound
Attaching charms, beads, and clay bells to driftwood
Final balancing and finishing touches
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have a beautifully assembled, driftwood-and-copper wind chime featuring their own handcrafted clay elements — a rustic yet refined piece that celebrates texture, movement, and sound.
All skill levels are welcome. Whether you’re new to clay or an experienced maker, this workshop offers a relaxed and inspiring environment to explore multi-medium design and create something truly personal.

Saturday August 1st | 5PM Sharp
What’s a week at summer camp without a closing ceremony and ribbon awards? If you attend just one workshop, you are invited to display your favorite pieces from your week at camp to share with everyone, and for the chance to earn a ribbon. Tried something new? Mastered a tricky technique? Created a masterpiece? Survived kiln drama? There’s likely gonna be a ribbon for that. We’ll cheer. We’ll clap. We may ooooh and ahhh….
Patches will be proudly displayed. Stories will be told. This is our moment to celebrate the beautiful community that forms when we gather to create with one another… and play in the mud.
A Quick Camp Policy Note
All workshop sales are final — no refunds or credits. We operate Summer Camp with built-in discounts to make it accessible, and we plan carefully to create something truly special. Our guest artists travel to be here and are paid for sharing their knowledge with our community. Thank you for understanding and supporting that commitment.*This workshop is not eligible for camp discounts.
Get ready to make some new friends, learn some cool stuff, and have a lot of fun being muddy. Clay nerds unite! See you soon.
