Learn. Gather. Grow.

Beale Pottery is a family owned small batch production studio in Northwest Indiana’s Duneland region where people come together to make, learn, and build community through clay.

  • More than a pottery studio.

Beale Pottery began in a 900 square foot basement in 2016 with one simple goal - to build a life around clay, and to spend time together doing what we love. In 2022 we moved our family and our business to our four acre property just 7 miles South of Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Park. We transformed the 1500 sqft building across our driveway into a working pottery studio, and started inviting people in.

Today, our studio and grounds continue to grow into a place where people learn new skills, gather around shared experiences, and connect with the landscape that inspires much of our work.

  • Our Design Inspiration.

If we’re not busy in the studio you can find us out exploring a trail somewhere, at the beach taking a dip in Lake Michigan, listening to live music somewhere, or simply finding time to spend with our family and friends. We live just 7 miles South of the Indiana Dunes National Park, and it boasts one of the most diverse ecosystems you’ll find in the midwest. Identifying wildflowers and plants within our area has become one of our favorite things to do. You may notice that many of our illustrations reflect the wonders we find in the nature around us. Our family and our community are also very important to us, and inspire much of what we make.

  • Our Process.

Our process is to work in batches. Each piece is created on the potters wheel or by slab construction. Our pieces go through an initial firing before they’re hand decorated with vibrant colors and designs, and then fired a second time. Some of our work gets decorated further with lusters or decals, and fired yet a third time. Most of our glazes are created here in-house, and formulated to be food safe. We are always striving to improve, learn, and grow as artists. Once there is a collection of finished work that we’re proud of, we’ll host a stock drop online. This process usually takes 6-8 weeks.
