Our monthly membership is set up for individuals with prior clay experience who wish to utilize our studio facilities to create independently. While there is no formal instruction provided, Milissa and/or Eric Beale will be present for advice, to foster creativity, and to help you reach your pottery goals. Both Milissa and Eric bring 20+ years of experience in clay to every session. Milissa specializes in hand building and surface design techniques, while Eric brings an incredible skillset on the potters wheel, and extensive chemistry knowledge for making glazes.
There will be 6 wheel spots, and 6 hand building spots available during each session time - please specify which you’re interested during the check out process.
*We are flexible with studio hours. You get 4 studio hours per week, which equates to 16 hours per month with your membership. *Cancelation must be noted at least 1 week prior to your monthly draft date.
There comes a point when you don’t necessarily need another class - you just need a place to keep making.
Beale Pottery’s Monthly Studio Membership is for potters with some experience who are ready for more independent studio time, access to the tools and materials they need, and a creative community to work alongside.
Come with a project. Come with an idea. Come because you haven’t touched clay in six months and you’re ready to get your hands muddy again. This is your place to keep going.
MORE THAN STUDIO ACCESS
Membership gives you 16 hours of studio time each month, typically four hours per week, with access to our wheels, hand building tables, slab roller, extruder, glaze kitchen, spray booth, kilns, clay and other studio equipment.
But honestly, the equipment isn’t the best part. The people are.
Our members have become a really meaningful part of the community here at Beale Pottery. They work beside one another, trade ideas, troubleshoot pots, experiment, laugh a lot, volunteer at events, share meals and encourage each other to keep growing.
Friday nights in particular have become one of our favorite times in the studio - wheels turning, tables full, music playing and a room full of people making things together. And on the first Friday of every month, we host a First Friday meal and eat together.
INDEPENDENT — BUT NOT ON YOUR OWN
Studio Membership is not a formal class, so members should have enough previous clay experience to work independently and safely in the studio. Independent doesn’t mean you’re completely on your own.Eric and Milissa are around to answer questions, help troubleshoot and encourage experimentation. Between the two, they bring more than 20 years of experience working in clay, with Milissa focusing heavily on hand building and surface design, and Eric bringing extensive experience at the wheel and a deep knowledge of glazes and glaze chemistry.
We want this to be a place where you can develop your own work, follow your curiosity and become a more confident maker.

IS MEMBERSHIP RIGHT FOR ME?
Membership is a great fit if you’ve taken pottery classes before and are comfortable working fairly independently. You don’t need to be an advanced potter.
You do need a basic understanding of the clay process and studio practices. Maybe you’ve finished a six-week class and don’t want to stop. Maybe you used to make pottery and want to return to it. Maybe you have your own artistic practice and simply need a well-equipped studio and community around you.
If you’re brand new to clay, start with one of our classes or workshops. We’ll help you build the foundation you need - and membership can be the next step.
