Raku Sculpture Workshop | September 16th + 23rd

$95.00

Two Tuesdays! September 16th + 23rd (Rain Date: Sept 30th)

Beginner Friendly!

Felicia Meyer is back to share her talents in sculpting! This time her focus will be sculpted additions to small, pre-made lidded jars. If that’s not your cup of tea, you’re welcome to create a critter or creature that makes your heart happy. Whatever that may be, Felicia will be here to guide you through the entire process. All of your work will be formed from raku clay, as the second part of this workshop will walk you through the raku firing process with your created works of art.

Raku is a ceramic firing process characterized by its low temperature and rapid cooling technique. Raku originated in Japan in the 16th century and is associated with traditional tea ceremonies where its simple forms and rustic beauty align with the principals of wabisabi. This process was Westernized by a group of potters in the early 60’s including the infamous Paul Soldner. Today raku looks very different from its traditional roots, but remains a fun and exciting way to finish decorative pottery.

Participants will be invited to decorate using various raku glazes. You’ll watch as our team brings your piece up to temp in our raku kiln, and places it into a bin where we reduce the oxygen - that’s where the magic happens! Each guest will walk away with their own one of a kind piece of decorative pottery on firing day!

Because the second Tuesday is contingent on good weather, we have built tin a rain date of September 30th. If that day doesn’t work for you, you will have other opportunities to raku your items. We can work with you to make that happen.
