Photographing Your Work: From Studio to Spotlight | Cody Moser
Creating great work is only half the journey—capturing it well is just as essential. In Photographing Your Work, students will learn the fundamentals of documenting their ceramic pieces through effective photography. We’ll cover basic camera functions, lighting setups, experiential photography, and editing techniques using accessible software. Please bring your own camera (smartphones are welcome, though a DSLR or mirrorless cameras are recommended) and a computer for editing - please bring any needed SD card readers, etc.. Students should also bring around 2-3 pieces they’ve made to photograph. After an in-depth demo during the first hour, you’ll have time for hands-on experimentation with lighting, setup, and software to develop your photo workflow.
Provided Supplies:
Cody will have his photography table, white backdrop, lighting set up, soft boxes, his own camera (participants will be required to use their own), he will also have his laptop for demo purposes.
What to bring:
- Your own camera or smartphone
-Computer (or something other than a phone to edit)
- Your own work to photograph.
Number of the class:
There will only be 12 spots open for this class. A smaller group will allow for a more collaborative environment, giving everyone time to engage with the process and experiment with the editing software while others are photographing their work.
What to Expect:
We'll begin with a detailed demo—approximately one hour—covering a range of topics including basic camera functions, lighting techniques, and ceramic-specific setups. After the demo, students will have time to work either in small groups or individually, rotating through the setup station while exploring lighting adjustments and editing software on their own.
Additional Camp Info:
We can not provide beer or wine, but you are welcome to bring your own as long as you consume responsibly.
Class is limited to 12 participants.
This workshop is part of our summer camp series, and you will earn a badge for participating. You are invited to submit your finished piece for display during our closing day raku picnic on July 20th to earn ribbons and/or prizes.
If you participate in more than one event within our summer camp series you will automatically receive a 20% discount on each additional workshops you attend. If you attend ALL workshops you will additionally receive a Claypron with our official Summer Camp Logo, and be able to showcase all your badges in style!
Our closing day raku picnic is open for all campers to attend, reminisce, and enjoy the day. We will also be open to the public, so feel free to bring friends! There will be raku pots to purchase, glaze, and fire up during the event. Your 20% discount for multiple workshop purchases will apply here as well. Those that attend ALL workshops are invited to raku one pot free of charge.
PLEASE NOTE: All workshop sales are final - no refunds or credits. We operate our summer camp with heavy discounts on our end making it more affordable for you. We plan ahead to make summer camp special, and pay our guest artists for being here and sharing their skillset with our community. Thank you for understanding! :)
Get ready to make some new friends, learn some cool stuff, and have a lot of fun being muddy. See you soon!
