Once a week class | 6 weeks
Monday Nights | 6-9pm
September 15th - October 20th
In this 6 week course beginner and intermediate students will be invited to spend time exploring what’s possible with clay through hand building. Classes will consist of 3 structured lessons using different build methods including coils and slabs, with a focus on making functional wares. We’ll discuss projects on day one, and solidify our plan for the remainder of class. *With the holidays fast approaching I will heavily suggest we go with casserole dishes as one of our projects. :)
In the 4th class you’ll get to explore what you’ve learned, and work on your own planned project, with guidance if needed. We’ll also discuss designs for your projects using various textures, cut outs, and glazes. The 5th and 6th classes will be dedicated to glazing and decorating. My specialties are hand-binding and surface decoration, so I really wanted to leave enough time in the 6 week course to explore both aspects with you.
In class you can expect to discuss various clay artists in the industry to be used as examples and inspiration while creating your own works.
Students will gain knowledge about the ceramic process, and will have created a handful of pieces by the end of the 6 weeks.
We’ll fire all pottery after the last class ends, and pick up will be scheduled for the following week at the same class time unless otherwise arranged.
Milissa Beale is the instructor for this workshop. She brings 20+ years of clay experience and creativity to the tables with her. She believes that there is an artist in everyone, and that carving out time to let your creative self flow is essential.
Class size is limited to 12.
All materials included.
